The new era for Monogem tugs at her roots in jazz and soul, backed by the same chic electro-pop sensibilities she’s known for. The Los Angeles musician, also known as Jen Hirsh, has found comfort in writing from the heart, reflected in her breakthrough Spanish-language single, “Soy Lo Que Soy” (translation: ‘I am what I am’). This is a personal and career milestone for Hirsh—it marks the first time she was courageous enough to incorporate her Guadalajaran heritage in her music, all to follow through on a promise she made with her abuela never to lose it.

Monogem has always toyed with whimsy—after all, her moniker is astral. Her new So Many Ways EP experiments with live instrumentation, evoking passion with percussion and drums; she also incorporates vocal layering and sampling into the release, always sure to keep her natural instrument at the forefront. Today, she proudly embraces her background as well as all the opportunities that have led her to this point. After all, Monogem was never really under-the-radar: she wrote a global hit with Lemaitre, shared the stage with touring acts such as Christine and the Queens, Ximena Sariñana, Nilüfer Yanya and Y LA BAMBA, has been lauded by notable publications such as Rolling Stone, Billboard and Harper's Bazaar, and currently boasts over 12 million streams on Spotify.  Monogem recently re-recorded her 2018 single 'Get You High' in Spanish which was featured across Rolling Stone Mexico & Radio Primavera Sound. Her new track 'Paraiso' will be released on May 29th and is inspired by her background in Jazz and Bossa Nova.

Rolling Stone: Swayed by an earthy dembow rhythm — not to mention her operatic vocal prowess — Monogem’s latest track 'Soy Lo Que Soy' crystallizes the bond between her art and her Mexican American heritage.

Billboard: Whether catering in upbeat, gently inspirational synth-bop or reflective, dreamy indie-pop, MONOGEM’s approach to her gorgeous, lilting music throws genre definitions to the wind -- so it only makes sense that on her So Many Ways EP, she freely switches between Spanish and English as she crafts a release that speaks to her own journey while reaching out to those around her.

Harper's Bazaar: The new single "Soy Lo Que Soy" marks a change of pace for Los Angeles–based MONOGEM: It's the first time she's released a song in Spanish. The risk has already paid off.

KCRW: There are very few songs that haunt you immediately after hearing them only once. That’s exactly what happened the first time I heard MONOGEM’s “Soy Lo Que Soy.” Her previous work in English is also captivating, but I think Hirsh may have crafted a secret sauce recipe singing in Español.

LADYGUNN: For Monogem, the release of “Soy Lo Que Soy” is a vulnerable step towards self-realization and pays tribute to the culture that was so integral to her upbringing.

BUST Magazine: “Being Latina in America feels like a memory that’s now coming to life.”

NYLON Spain: MONOGEM: la diva mexicana-estadounidense de la electrónica lanza So many ways, un himno sobre el amor sin etiquetas

Medium: “So Many Ways” opens on oscillating tones flowing into gleaming pulsating synths riding sparkling synths exuding creamy iridescent flavors. A plump potent bass line and crisp drums provide the suave rhythm, as Monogem’s sumptuous voice glides overhead, infusing the lyrics with simmering erotic washes of textures.

Ones To Watch:Listening to MONOGEM’S music incites mental images involving sparkles, glitter, and other ethereal novelties that don’t seem to belong to planet Earth.”

MiLK: “One listen to 100% and it’s clear: MONOGEM is flying high, enjoying the hell out of LA, and tapping into her truest form of self for an electro pop record that’s sure to dominate this summer’s sound.”
